Going Away for Awhile?
Request for an Extended Absence
Parents or guardians need to complete this form for vacations that last four days or more. In doing so, they acknowledge our school’s policies and the potential for negative consequences to their child’s learning. Please read the details under the drop-down items below.
-
Absences that include non-medical personal leave or additional holidays/vacations are considered unexcused. For holidays or vacations during school time, teachers will not provide or prepare work for absent students. It will be up to the teacher’s discretion if they assess the work that was missed.
-
At the secondary level, a student who misses 12 classes per term will lose credit for their course. If these are reasons beyond the student’s control, an appeal may be made to the administration.
-
For elementary students, 20 days of absences will result in a meeting between the administration and the student and their parents.
-
Of course, there are exceptional circumstances where the school may take steps to minimize the impact of an absence when it is educationally supportable, although all absences will have some effect on students’ achievement.
